Book: A**hology: The Science behind getting your way---and getting away with it.
By: Steven B. Green, Dennis Lavalle, and Chris Illuminati
Self help books to lift self esteem and gain confidence, respect are highly popular in today's society due to the face paced changes of what is considered appropriate to gain respect.
A**hology is a self help book aimed towards individuals who have difficulty gaining respect and the things they want in life, sure, to be an a##hole requires conformity, but it also requires commitment, a commitment to be the most effective a##hole one can be.
If this sounds like your cup of tea, than you NEED this book.
Plot/Summary:
First order of business. An a##hole is an ambitious, successful person who always has a plan. Think Dennis Leary. (He's blunt and decisive, and has a charity for firemen.)
Do NOT confuse an a##hole with a douche. A douche is a person who acts irrationally and who does not have consideration for others. THINK Spencer Pratt. (No explanation needed)
It teaches a person many specific points of being an a##hole. It gives a list of historical a##holes, defines it and why it's an effective attitude; how to act in social roles of work, dating, and multiple sections on why it is okay to be one.
Review:
A##holeology is really entertaining and convincing in why it's okay to be a jerk. It makes the title seem proud and respectable and gives accurate examples of effective a##hole tendencies and why it's an acceptable and necessary role in society. I really thought it was hilarious and shocked at how convincing it was making me want to be one. It's mostly directed towards men, though, but still has a lot of great advice for both genders. Women might want to look for self help books and the term b*tch if they really want a gender specific self help book.
Author's Writing Technique: A##holeology is very detail specific and subdivided. Each chapter and section has a
- Chapter Recap
- Questions to Think about
- What you SHOULD have learned
- The Quotable Asshole (an important quote that clarifies the role of an asshole)
Overall, it was written in a no nonsense way that is entertaining, but extremely informative and motivating.
Writer's Tip: Try writing about a behaviorial habit and justify why it is or isn't socially acceptable. Research famous persons in history who you think define the behavior, how the type of person should behave around others in many social situations and give the reader topics to consider at the end of each point.
