What is a comic book?

Comic books are a genre of writing that  features short dialogue and illustrated characters that use thought
bubbles to communicate. Comic books and comic strips came into the US from Europe and is called "comic" because the genre was meant to be comedic, although most comics now are of any genre.

The appeal of comic books is that they are usually concise and
easy to interpret, witty, and embody a reader's favorite action hero or protagonist
because of the fast paced display of events.

How do comic books look? The events in a comic book are divided by actions and dialogue in sets that direct the comics plot by using illustrations that are visually appealing, opposed to a short story because of the comedic way that the characters speak and act.

Batman, Spider Man, The Justice League are all popular types of comic book protagonists of DC COMICS and MARVEL.
Comic Strips: Comic strips are highly popular in news paper, online websites/blogs and are easy for any person to attempt. They are the basic concept of a comic book and are usually easy to interpret and witty. Comic strips, like comic books, have protagonists that are in every comic and usually have a similar dilemma in every strip, but are solved in different creative ways each time.

Cyanide and Happiness is an example of comics that use puns often in its comics, but it also uses a lot of crude language and situations that can be offensive to sensitive readers.
The Peanut Gang is a comic strip that has been around for decades
and always has great social commentary and wit.
Writer's Tip: Comic books are very easy to make. First come up with a basic protagonist and antagonist. Decide on a dilemma and always have a purpose for the characters. A comic book has the same basic structure of a short story with illustrations. Comic books rely heavily on illustration and use a lot of wit or obvious statements.

Divide the strip by each event and write out their dialogue in thought bubbles. Comic strips can be very short or long depending on a writer's purpose, so their is no length requirement.
