Self Publishing is Affordable

Self publication is a process that can be out of one's spending limit, but it is a worth while investment for writers who prefer to keep full creative reign of their works. Self publication consists of finding an online publishing house that allows self publishing in various forms. There are packages offered based on a writer's preferences and reasons for self publishing.

Self publishing does have various packages to meet one's price range and meet what a writer can afford, but the best packages for writers who hope to have wide publication are packages that offer publication to Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com since they are two of the most well known retailers.

For those who are cautious about investing in their work, there are online self publishing sites that offer discounts during the holiday seasons and sporadically all year round.

Right now, Iuniverse.com, a self publishing website that offers mass marketing and smaller packages for writers, has a 33% savings on self publishing packages until December 15, 2011.

xlibris.com, a widely used self publishing site is also offering 50% markdowns on basic publishing packages. Authorhouse.com is also a self publishing website that is offering 50% markdowns on publishing packages.

Iuniverse, Xlibris and Authorhouse are only three well known self publishing houses, but for avid writers, a great tactic would be to sign up for multiple site newsletters from competing self publishing sites to always be aware of the best self publishing discounts. This is a great way for someone who already has work ready to be published or is in the process of finishing work to get the best self publishing deal that meets his or her needs and price range.

Reasons for self publishing:
  • A writer needs a written work published for personal use, which is much more affordable than using a literary agent for a work that isn't intended for mass publication.
  • A writer does not want his or her work to be affected by the opinion's of an agent or editor who might prefer a didn't creative path due to monetary gain.
  • Self publication gives a writer more control of where his or his book is published.
  • It's AFFORDABLE!
