Twilight

Book: Twilight
By: Stephanie Meyers

Twilight is the first of four books that follow the relationship of a human and a vampire as they overcome personal and external struggles that threaten their relationship.

I honestly didn't have an interest in the Twilight series until it came out to theaters because I'm a Kristen Stewart fan, but liked it and read all of the subsequent novels.

Lyric Inspiring Novels

What I love about books and novels are that the ideas expressed in them are almost always open to interpretation. They can inspire artists, musicians, aspiring writers and anyone who's truly related to what they've read.

Here are the links to awesome songs that have been inspired by novels:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Book: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
By: Jeff Kinney

One day out of pure boredom, I took the advice of a six year old and watched the movie Diary of  Wimpy Kid, which I originally thought would try too hard to show the perspective of young children. Thanks to my awesomeness and willingness to listen, I realized that Diary of a Wimpy Kid is not only a hilarious and adorable movie, but is also a book series for elementary children.

The Catcher in the Rye

Book: The Catcher in the Rye
By: J.D Salinger
“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.” J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye was written by J.D Salinger and is one of the best known novels that signifies teen angst. It is a story of teenage angst that has been several times attempted to be put into film, but has an essence that can not be translated from paper.

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them - if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry."
- J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Ch. 24

Old Wounds

Book: Old Wounds
By: N.K Smith

A recent book recommended to me is by a new author N.K Smith which used the popularity of fan fiction to gain a basis for publication.

Her book was previously posted as a story on a website that allows writers to have "fan fiction" work reviewed and given constructive criticism. I used to think that the writing world of "fan fiction" stories was obscure and odd, and I didn't even know there was a concept of "fan fiction" for stories based on books, films, etc----but coming across a short comedic story about an obsessive vampire and rubber duckies one day made me realize that there is a cult of writers who write stories dedicated to hundreds of shows, books and films.
